31 Aug 12 Hong Kong's government is inviting tenders to develop a new bathing beach - and to keep bathers safe from sharks.

The work at Lung Mei in Tai Po comprises the construction of a 200m-long bathing beach with a breakwater at each end, a shark-prevention net, a public car park, retaining walls, and associated roadworks, drainage and sewerage works.

Work is scheduled to begin in November for completion in August 2014. The Civil Engineering & Development Department's port works division is responsible for the design and supervision.

Tender forms are available from the division at 4/F, Civil Engineering & Development Building, 101 Princess Margaret Road, Ho Man Tin. The tender deadline is noon on 12 October.
