Hyundai lands $434m Qatar deal

5 Sep 11 Hyundai Engineering & Construction has been awarded a US$434m (£268m) contract to build the new National Museum of Qatar.

Hyundai expects to take 33 months to build the museum, which will stand on an extensive site in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

The museum has been designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. The steel and concrete design is based on the desert rose - tiny formations that crystallise below the desert's surface. The building will be constructed from dozens of interlocking disc-like forms varying in curvature and diameter, suggestive of the blade-like petals of the desert rose.
