Kier chosen for student accommodation scheme

16 Aug 11 Bath Row Developments has appointed Kier Living as lead contractor for a £7.45m student accommodation scheme adjoining Penryn Railway Station in Cornwall.

The new building, on Station Road, will provide accommodation for 233 students in clusters of between four and seven rooms, and in a small number of studios. The private sector development is being underwritten by University College Falmouth (UCF) and the University of Exeter (UoE), which share and jointly manage the Tremough Campus in Penryn.

The finished scheme will be managed by student accommodation specialist Campus Development Management (CDM), which will provide an on-site management team and manage the letting administration, security, maintenance, cleaning, launderette, health & safety compliance, and IT services.

Bob Pepper of Bath Row Developments said: “The scheme will use local materials, subcontractors and suppliers as much as possible. All of the work on site is being carried out by Kier Living, which will source 85% of the labour and materials for the development from within the West Country.”

Kier Living has just started on site and the development is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2012/2013 academic year.
