Lafarge outsources plant management to Babcock

28 Sep 11 Babcock International, the engineering support services contractor, has signed a £50m contract with Lafarge to manage and maintain the entire fleet of heavy mobile equipment within its UK aggregates and cement businesses for the next 10 years.

The companies are also negotiating rolling out the contract across Lafarge’s global operations, starting with the USA. This second phase is expected to be worth a further £100m to Babcock.

Babcock said that the outsourcing of plant management represented “a global first in the mining and construction fleet management sector”.
