Laing O’Rourke invited to tender for Sydney tunnel

26 Oct 12 Teams including Laing O’Rourke, Bouygues and Dragados have been invited to start preparing their tender bids to design and build 15km of tunnels in Sydney, Australia.

Three shortlisted consortia have been issued their official invitations to tender for the work as part of a rail link in the north west of the city. Expressions of interest have also been called for the surface and viaduct civil works contract, which includes construction of the 4km ‘skytrain’ elevated section between Bella Vista and Rouse Hill.

The three teams shortlisted for the tunnelling are:

  • Baulderstone Bouygues North West Rail Joint Venture;
  • Rapidlink Joint Venture (Obayashi, McConnell Dowell, Laing O’Rourke Australia);
  • Thiess John Holland Dragados Joint Venture.

“We’re on track to have the first of the tunnel boring machines in the ground in 2014,” said minister for transport Gladys Berejiklian.
