It will stand on the Cotai Strip, which is an area of reclaimed land between the islands of Taipa and Coloane. The project includes the construction of a luxury hotel and a mixed-use podium comprising gaming, dining, retail, and convention facilities, a nightclub and specialist attractions. The resort site covers a construction floor area of more than 450,000m2.

Leighton Holdings chief executive officer Hamish Tyrwhitt said: “Leighton has built a solid track record in casino and hotel resorts in Macau over the past eight years with a number of significant projects successfully delivered, and we are delighted to be working with Wynn Resorts again.”

Leighton Asia, India & Offshore managing director Ian Edwards added: “We have been involved with Wynn since 2004, when they embarked on their first development in the region. To secure our fourth consecutive project with the world’s leading gaming operator is an outstanding achievement and illustrates the strength of the Leighton Group.

Site preparation works have already started and a pre-construction support team has been established to assist Wynn Resorts in developing and managing the design works. Leighton Contractors (Asia) will work closely with Wynn Resorts in the coming months to further progress the detailed design and development of the project.

Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2012 with an expected completion date in early 2016.
