S Group is a Finnish network of companies in the retail and service sectors. It has more than 1,600 outlets in Finland.The logistics centre in Sipoo, Finland will have a gross surface area of about 193,000m2 and a capacity of around 3,400,000m3. Its large scale means that the project will be carried out in five overlapping phases. This preliminary contract covers the implementation of the entire project, but actual construction contracts will be made separately for each phase of the implementation. The construction contract for the first phase is scheduled to be signed in early 2013.
"It is good to have our old partners S Group and Lemminkäinen with us in such a demanding project as this. Preparatory work is already well under way," said Jarkko Muurimäki, an executive vice president of Skanska.
In 2010-2012, Lemminkäinen implemented a consumer goods logistics centre for the S Group on the adjacent plot via a project management contract. "We are very delighted by this opportunity to continue our good co-operation with S Group,” said Jukka Terhonen, executive vice president, building construction, Lemminkäinen. “The construction of the consumer goods logistics centre is testimony to our competence. As we also have plenty of experience of co operation with Skanska, forming a consortium for the project with them is easy."
