The growth has continued in the first half of 2011, with turnover up a further 14% in the first six months of this year. The directors expect 2011 to see 10% growth overall by year end.

Liebherr’s newly published annual report for 2010 shows that growth came exclusively from construction machinery sales, where sales revenues were up 16% to €4,744m.

Sales in the earthmoving and mining division were up 33% to €2,413m, while mobile and crawler cranes were up a more modest 2.7% to €1,812m. The division comprising tower cranes and concrete mixers saw sales up 1.1 % to €520m.

After the previous year’s downturn, the proportion of total group turnover accounted for by the construction machinery divisions rose again from 58.6 % to 62.5 %.

Sales revenues from product divisions outside the construction industry, including maritime cranes, refrigerators and aerospace components, totalled €2,843m – down 1%.

The maritime cranes division, however was up 9% to €730m in revenues.

There were 888 new jobs created worldwide at Liebherr in 2010, bringing the total workforce at the end of the year to 32,979 employees.
