As commercial secretary to the treasury, replacing Lord Sassoon, his responsibilities include enterprise and productivity, including industrial strategy and infrastructure. It will be his job to encourage private investment in infrastructure and oversee reform of the private finance initiative (PFI).
The 56-year-old former Goldman Sachs banker will be given a seat in the House of Lords.
