30 Sep 11 Mace's strategy to develop its business in the nuclear sector has been boosted by the award of two major contracts by Magnox for decommissioning work.

The first contract is for managed services at Sizewell in Suffolk. The second is for programme management support at the Berkeley site in Gloucester. Both focus on the management of the delivery of projects as part of the decommissioning programmes.

Mace was awarded the contracts as a member of the Government Procurement Service project management and design team framework.

Mace energy director John Bradshaw said: "The nuclear decommissioning market is at the very heart of the most highly regulated and complex industry sector. Securing work in this new market for Mace strengthens our service offer of bringing our expertise from other infrastructure and highly regulated sectors and applying it to the nuclear sector."

Magnox, owned by EnergySolutions, is the management and operations contractor responsible for 10 nuclear sites in the UK. Under contract to the site owner, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Magnox is responsible for electricity generation across a number of sites throughout the UK.
