Mason Bros plans 1400km charity digger drive

25 Aug 11 Pembrokeshire-based construction machinery company Mason Brothers is to raise money for charity by driving a Doosan DX140W wheeled excavator 874 miles (1,400km) non-stop from John O’Groats to Lands’ End.

It is seeking donations to raise funds and increase awareness for the Cardiac Risk in Young (CRY) foundation.

The national fund-raiser will begin at 6am on Monday 24 October 2011 and will be live on the internet with regular updates including photographs and video. Doosan is the main sponsor of the event and web page sponsorships are available for businesses to show their support.  The wheeled excavator can also be sponsored per mile or in a lump sum for the journey and sponsorship sheets are available from Mason Brothers (tel 01834 831653). The team from Mason Brothers will be collecting donations from the public and businesses throughout the journey from the north to the south of Great Britain.

CRY was founded in 1995 to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to Young Sudden Cardiac Death, Sudden Death Syndrome and Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome. Among the services it offers, the foundation provides screening of young people to identify heart defects and other abnormalities associated with these conditions. The Mason Brothers event is called Dean's Digger Drive in memory of Dean Mason, an employee of the company who passed away last year from a heart defect, which was not identified from standard screenings.  He was 26 at the time.
