MBO for access hire business

8 Aug 14 Access Hire Nationwide, which specialises in the hire of vehicle-mounted access platforms, has been subject to a venture capital backed management buyout.

Elysian Capital has joined with the company’s management to buy Access Hire Nationwide (AHN) and sister company Welfare Hire Nationwide (WHN). The business, based in Normanton near Wakefield, has been acquired from a shareholder group headed by David Wraith, who was non-executive chairman and founder.

Elysian said that as two-thirds of vehicle-mounted access platforms in the UK were owned directly by utilities companies or other in-house fleets, and only one-third with hire firms, there was significant scope for growth in the rental sector.

Welfare Hire Nationwide’s vans double as both welfare accommodation units and transportation for teams to and from sites. The business provides larger mobile (towed) or static units.

John Wood, CEO of both AHN and WHN said: “We are very pleased to have concluded this acquisition with Elysian Capital who share our vision for the future growth and development of our market leading businesses. AHN and WHN provide a critical service in support of the UK construction and infrastructure sectors.  We believe that, with the help of Elysian Capital, we can expand the range, quantity and quality of products we offer and improve the services we provide to our customers. Our Vans and Welfare units are critical in providing UK infrastructure workers with safe, comfortable and efficient working facilities.”
