McAlpine to build £9m sports centre

The £9m York Sports Village, designed by Space Architects, forms part of the university’s Heslington East campus expansion.

Facilities will include an eight lane, 25m competition standard swimming pool, a 100 station gym, a 3G Astroturf pitch and a multi-use games area. It will be open to local residents in the area as well as students and staff.

The centre is scheduled to open in July 2012.
