Ms Sharp joined the building engineering services sector in 1987, following a career in banking, when she was appointed office manager by Overclean Ltd, the Devon-based ventilation hygiene specialist.
She was promoted to operations director of Overclean in 1996 and managing director two years later. In 2007 she stepped aside from running the company to become a non-executive director.
She also runs a management consultancy, Sharp Business Solutions, which provides a range of business services to small businesses, many in the heating, plumbing and electrical sectors.
The Building & Engineering Services Association was previously called the Heating & Ventilating Contractors' Association.
