Ocon to build Muir housing scheme

26 Sep 12 Manchester based Ocon Construction has been awarded a £1.16m contract to build an 18-unit residential scheme in Warrington for the Muir Group Housing Association.

The Manor Lock development will provide seven three-bedroom houses and 11 one-bedroom apartments for affordable rental in the Latchford area of Warrington following the 11-month design and build programme. 

Constructed on a brownfield site that was previously occupied by a social club, the scheme involves traditional brick and masonry construction and has been designed to Code Three for Sustainable Homes standard.

The contractor is better known for its work building specialist student accommodation. Ocon project manager John Baggaley said: “This is a significant scheme for Ocon as it demonstrates that our skills and experience in the student accommodation sector are transferable to the mainstream residential sector. Our expertise in building high quality residential units to tight construction deadlines makes us ideally placed to deliver projects in the social housing sector and we have been able to offer a complete turnkey solution for Muir Group, developing the designs to value engineer the scheme while providing excellent homes for the client’s tenants.”
