Pedal-powered foldaway access platform

20 Nov 12 A new low-level access platform that is moved around by pedal power is being distributed in the UK by Oldham-based Lift Safe.

The Mini-Mobi is a single piece folding aluminium work platform with a pedal drive system. At 600mm wide, it can fit through standard doorways and folds down for transport in an estate car or small van.

The operator pushes the 50kg folded unit into position, erects it, carries out the job and then pedals across the floor to the next work zone. It has a safe working load of 120kg – sufficient for one person and a box of tools.

With a working height of more than 3m, the Mini-Mobi is designed for low level access applications.

Lift Safe managing director Jerry Hanss said: “Mini-Mobi provides the safety and productivity benefits of a low-level access platform without the complexity of electric motors or hydraulics. Unlike some podiums and scaffold, there is only one piece so there is no chance of bits going missing. Also, many two-person operations can be performed by one person with the Mini-Mobi."

He added: “This simplicity, coupled with its compact dimensions and low cost, make Mini-Mobi an ideal rental product as well as a sound investment for contractors.”

Mini-Mobi was originally produced for the European aerospace industry. The platform height is adjustable from 460mm to 1.2m, in increments of 150mm. Standard safety features on the 600mm x 600mm platform include guard rails, a self-closing gate and toe boards. Pull-out stabilisers and locking castors keep the platform stable during use and there is also an operator-applied brake.
