Under the proposals, community facilities, schools and playing fields, as well as public and private sector housing could be created on the Welsh Government-owned 100 hectare Greenfield site.

Business Minister Edwina Hart has approved funding for the study, which will be formally submitted as part of the consultation process on the City and County of Swansea’s Local Development Plan (LDP).

The site of the proposed village is adjacent to the former site of the British Steel tinplate works, which closed in 1989 and is now a  60 hectare brownfield site. Now owned by Swansea Council, the site has undergone extensive remediation works to create a strategic employment site.
