Key sections of the bridge deck and the two lifting leaves that will form the Twin Sails structure are being installed, a milestone in the £37m project that will see the crossing over Poole’s Backwater Channel open in early 2012.
Hochtief’s contract is worth £18.5m.
Gifford is lead engineering consultant on the project with architect Wilkinson Eyre.
The new crossing is expected to unlock 26 hectares of brownfield land for development of 2,000 new homes, making it one of the largest regeneration areas in the southwest.
