Between February and July this year, the company opened 16 new smaller stores that had previously been owned by Netto. This addition of some 130,000 square feet takes its nationwide store space footprint 12.4 million square feet of store space.
A further 500,000 square feet is for the second half of the year, including 100,000 square feet of extensions.
Morrisons made a pre-tax profit of £449m on turnover of £8.7bn in the six months to 31 July 2011.
