Singapore lets £285m of rail contracts

30 Aug 11 Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the final three civil contracts for the Downtown Line 3 (DTL3) project at a total value of S$563.35m (£285m).

Samsung C&T Corporation has won the S$256.98m contract for construction of Upper Changi station and associated tunnels. The station will also serve as a civil defence shelter. Samsung had earlier clinched the adjacent DTL3 contract for the construction of Expo station and its tunnels.

Shanghai Tunnel Engineering has has won the S$91.13m contract for tunnel construction between Tampines East and Upper Changi Stations. It is currently involved in the construction of DTL2 Newton station and DTL1 Promenade station.

The construction of Bendemeer station and associated tunnels has been awarded to Penta-Ocean Construction at S$215.24m.

Construction of the two stations and the tunnels will start next month and are targeted to complete in 2017.

The 21km long DTL3 is the final stretch of the 42km Downtown Line. It will improve rail connectivity in the eastern corridors to the Central Business District and developments in the Marina Bay area. The line is fully underground and has 16 stations, including three interchange stations: MacPherson, Tampines and Expo.
