Skanska picked for Stockholm bus depot

3 May 12 Skanska is to build a SEK1.25bn (£114m) bus depot in Stockholm.

It has signed an agreement with the Greater Stockholm Public Transport Company to build the depot, which will be partly solar powered and will have capacity for 120 biogas-fuelled buses. There will also be workshops, bus-washing facilities, a garage and offices.

Sustainability will be in focus during construction, with respect to material selection and technical solutions. The building will partly receive its energy supply from solar panels on the outer wall and stonecrops will be planted on the roof. The buses that will use the depot will operate exclusively on biogas.

The building will have approximately 50,000m2 of space and the office area will be up to seven levels high.

The local plan has already been approved and construction is scheduled to commence in the summer, with completion planned for the end of 2016. The project will employ approximately 200 people.
