Solaglas Bolted Glazing Systems achieve blast certification

9 Aug 11 Two bolted glazing systems from the specialist glass solutions company, Solaglas, have achieved blast-mitigation certification to ISO 16933, ‘Glass in Building " explosion resistant security glazing’ in the ‘arena air blast loading’ classification.

The Saint-Gobain owned company achieved certification for two of its products – Spiderglass, Solaglas’ proprietary system, incorporating unique articulated bolts and designed for use in single-glazed applications, and Lite-Wall ISO which is manufactured by sister Saint-Gobain company, Eckelt, and is supplied by Solaglas for use in double glazed applications. Both systems were successfully tested at the GL Spadeadam test centre in Cumbria.

As a direct result of the test certification, Solaglas has supplied one of the systems for installation in the public service areas of London Underground.

Huw Lovegrove, Business Manager for Solaglas Architectural's Structural Supply business comments: “The majority of all bomb related injuries are caused by falling or flying glass, so the glazing elements of buildings and infrastructure are critically important. Having this certification for our bolted glazing systems now enables them to be specified and installed for blast-mitigation purposes.”
