Strabag lands €700m German college PPP

5 Sep 12 The city of Hamburg has commissioned Strabag to plan, build, renovate and operate 15 vocational colleges under a €700m (£553m) deal.

The project will be implemented in public private partnership (PPP) over a period of 30 years including the five-year construction and renovation phase.

FMHH Facility Manager Hamburg, a joint venture company of Otto Wulff and the Schultz Group, will be responsible for infrastructural facility management; Strabag Property & Facility Services will take over technical building management and relocation management.

All construction services have been transferred to a joint venture between Ed  Züblin, and Hamburg’s Otto Wulff Bauunternehmung.

The size of the project has led the 15 colleges to be grouped into eight packages. In addition to complex logistics and the need to maintain running of the colleges during the construction phase, the renovation of some listed buildings in particular presents a special challenge.

Overall, approximately 20,000m² of old areas will give way to the wrecking ball. After completion of all the construction in the late summer of 2017, the buildings will have approximately 80,000m² of modernised and 90,000m² of newly constructed gross floor space between them.
