Strabag picks up cancelled Polish road

3 Oct 11 A team led by Strabag subsidiaries has been awarded a €120m (£104m) Polish road contract following the cancellation of the original contract with a Polish-Macedonian consortium.

Under the contract, the Strabag team will continue construction of 21 km of A4 motorway between Brzesko and Wierzchoslawice.

Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads & Highways is client for the scheme. Strabag’s group share in the contract is 55% and the work will be carried out by Polish Strabag subsidiaries Heilit+Woerner Budowlana and Strabag Sp.

The order comes after a previous contract for this section with a Polish-Macedonian consortium was cancelled earlier this spring.

The construction time amounts to 15 months, but will be divided into three completion milestones. The completion of the A4 motorway has been put on Poland’s list of priority projects in the run-up to Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. It is seen as an important link between the two countries.
