The construction work for section 5 follows its contract for section 3, which was completed in August 2012.
Section 5 covers construction of track from the west portal of the Rosshäusern Tunnel up to about 300m before the Saane Viaduct. The 1,030m section runs along the existing track of the Bern-Paris TGV line. The CHF 7.1m (£4.75m) contract also includes earthworks, drainage, concrete works, excavation bracing and piles.
Work starts this month and is divided into various construction phases, with completion in March 2015. BLS plans to begin operating the new double-track line at the end of 2016.
