Mr Whittington has been with the firm for 33 years, a director for 23 years and chairman for the past four.
“I have decided that I will retire from the firm on 31st December 2012, before I reach the ripe old age of 61,” he said. “I am confident that I can leave the practice in sound form, low on debt, high on orders, with the best staff in the country, and still one of the largest with 240 staff, to continue to provide the level of service that keeps us so strong.”
