Tarmac secures £3m specialist concrete contract

24 Oct 12 Tarmac has secured a £3m contract to supply specialist concrete for a new energy-from-waste pant at Trident Park in Cardiff.

The £250m plant is being developed by operator and waste management company Viridor.

The contract will see Tarmac supply 38,000m3 of concrete including a large volume of Tarmac’s TopProof water-resistant concrete. The TopProof has been specified by Lagan Construction Ltd, and will be used to construct the facility’s waste transfer bunker.

TopProof is designed to remove the need for external membranes that are often used to create watertight concrete, cutting material and labour costs as well as minimising the chances of early failure caused by shrinkage and cracking.

When completed in January 2014, the Trident Park plant will process up to 350,000t of waste per annum and produce 30MW of energy a year using combined heat and power technology, which will be provided to the National Grid.
