UK firm plans £248m Ghanaian solar project

6 Dec 12 UK-based renewable energy investment company Blue Energy has announced plans for what its says will be Africa’s largest solar power plant.

The Nzema plant in Ghana will be able to supply enough electricity to power more than 100,000 homes. Construction of the US$400m (£248m) plant is due to start within a year and the developers hope to confirm finance within six months.

A key factor in making the project viable is that Ghana’s renewable energy law will guarantee the plant a feed-in tariff for 20 years at premium prices.
