University of Birmingham plans £175m building works

11 Aug 11 The University of Birmingham is planning to spend £175m in capital works over the next five years to improve facilities on its Edgbaston campus.

Key developments include a new sports centre and a new library, to join the new music department building that is currently nearing completion.

The university’s programme comes at a time when neighbouring Birmingham City University is also spending £180m on building a new campus – it awarded Willmott Dixon a £61m contract earlier this month for the first phase.

University of Birmingham’s plans for the sports centre include the city’s first 50m swimming pool.

Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands and S&P have been appointed to manage the development of the plans.
