University of York invites bids for £100m campus expansion

23 Nov 11 The University of York is expanding its existing facilities through the addition of a new 160 acre campus, and has invited contractors to participate in a pre-qualification exercise for the works.

The £50m expansion will include a new college building on the Heslington East site.

Bidders will be interested in the long term provision of student accommodation. The contract will be based on the operator purchasing from the University a long lease, potentially 60 years, to build and operate 600/650 student bed spaces in the new college, based on a broad specification provided by the university.

The contract may be based on revenue income from student lettings, from charges for services to the accommodation.

A further college building is planned by the university on the same Heslington East campus, also worth £50m, which the university may ask the operator to deliver.

Interested parties should contact the university by 17 January 2012.
