Vinci picked for Stoke bus station

29 Sep 11 Vinci has won a £15m contract to build a new bus station in Stoke.

The landmark bus station has been designed by architects Grimshaw to create a new gateway for the city. It represents the first phase of a £350m retail development by Realis Estates in the city, City Sentral, which is due for completion by 2015. The bus station is scheduled for completion towards the end of 2012.

The new bus station will provide purpose built facilities for passengers in the city centre. The build includes 22 new bus bays, improved passenger waiting areas, refreshment kiosk and lavatories.

Vinci's bid was selected from a shortlist of C Spencer, Galliford Try, Kier, Laing O'Rourke and Wates.

Councillor Ruth Rosenau, Stoke-on-Trent City Council cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The appointment of the principal contractor is the next step in the build of the city’s brand new bus station facility. It is exciting to see work progressing on time for the opening in autumn next year.”
