Wates appoints new Midlands business manager

13 Oct 11 Wates Construction has boosted its Midlands operation with the appointment of Andrew Hands as Business Manager.

In a move to strengthen its senior team in the East and West Midlands, the appointment comes as Wates prepares to grow its regional presence in sectors including commercial, higher education and senior living.

Hands has been with the Birmingham-based company for 10 years and his new position will see him the lead the team of  150 construction professionals as Wates embarks upon an ambitious growth plan. Targeted with significantly increasing market share, Hands will look to enhance business efficiency, improve safety standards, deliver the utmost quality from start to finish, and ensure that all projects exceed the demands of Wates’ customers. Hands is also tasked with contributing to the company’s Group-wide ambition to become the first contractor to deliver 100% of projects on time, on budget, every time.

Living in Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham, Hands (36) joined Wates as a Quantity Surveyor in 2001 before steadily rising to his most recent position as Regional Commercial Manager where he oversaw the commercial delivery of Wates’ construction projects in the region.

In addition to his business commitments, Andy is a keen fundraiser and recently took part in the three peaks challenge in order to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
