Welsh government promotes timber construction

14 Nov 12 The timber construction industry will be showcased at a Welsh government-supported event at Swansea's Liberty Stadium next week.

The aim of the 22 November event, organised by the Welsh government’s construction sector, is to raise awareness of the use of timber in construction and to highlight its potential contribution to the Welsh economy and its sustainable credentials.

Currently, around 40% of UK demand for timber is met from the domestic market.

A number of companies from the timber construction industry in Wales will be exhibiting their products and services.

Speakers at the event include UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA) chief executive Andrew Carpenter and Wood Knowledge Wales chair Phil Roberts.

Welsh business minister Edwina Hart said: "This is a great opportunity for companies to highlight the benefits of timber in the construction of buildings. We need to think more innovatively about how we use our resources into the future and the sustainable credentials of timber are excellent.

"The Welsh government is committed to doing all it can to promote the use of timber in construction, and to promote trade links with other count ries. I urge interested companies to attend this business event as it offers an excellent opportunity to showcase what Wales has to offer, and is an important networking opportunity with other companies and potential clients ."

Companies/individuals can register to attend or exhibit for free by emailing businesssupport@wales.gsi.gov.uk
