Work begins on first phase of Stockport urban village regeneration

22 Nov 11 Construction has begun on the first new homes to be built as part of a major regeneration scheme for Stockport set to bring new homes and economic investment to the town.

Forty-six apartments for social rent for Stockport Homes are being developed by urban regeneration specialist ID4 Living and built by Seddon Construction at Hopes Carr, on a derelict site to the south of the town centre. Both ID4 Living and Seddon Construction are members of the national Seddon Group.

New urban village

The £5.7 million Hopes Carr scheme, which is being built with funding from the Homes and Communities Agency and Stockport Homes, will be the first element in the town’s new Covent Garden Village, a mixed-tenure residential-led urban village which will deliver 250 new homes, new shops and a park. Seddon and Stockport Council will work in partnership to deliver the new neighbourhood.

Designed by architects Bowker Sadler, the five-storey block of 46 new apartments will be owned and managed by Stockport Homes. The development, due to be completed in early 2013, will feature two retail units at ground-level and 35 underground car parking spaces.
