The contract includes the design of a new underground bus terminal the Slussen area, and is part of a wider project to transform Slussen into a dynamic new urban quarter at the heart of the Swedish capital.
WSP won the tender for the underground, or rock, section of the project - the other two sections being water and land. It will provide multidisciplinary design services including feasibility study, preliminary and detailed design, rock mechanics, geotechnical, structural design, water and sewerage, M&E, traffic planning, risk management, fire, acoustics and environmental. The project will be designed in 3D using BIM technology.
The new bus terminal will serve commuters travelling to the suburbs of Nacka and Värmdö on the east side of Stockholm. It will form part of a new transport interchange. Buses will circulate inside the underground terminal hall around a central waiting area, exiting at ground level on the quay-side. The terminal is expected to be operational in 2018.
