I last attended the New Holland Grand Prix competition in 2009, so it will be a great experience to make a return trip to Turin this year, and to report on the extremely popular operator challenge style event, which has become a regular fixture in the company’s itinerary.
Coincidently one of the competitors I saw compete in the 2009 contest, will be making a return this year. Ewan Irvine of Peebles based Graham Irvine and Partners, was the winner of the Scottish heat, which was held at the ScotPlant show earlier this year, beating a field of 60 contestants, whose skills were tested on a time trial, featuring a E50B SR mini excavator, Ewan completed the task in 1 minute 20 seconds, with the closest runner up being just 1 second behind! Ewan is seen here during the 2009 event taking part in the “hard hat” competition on a E16B model.
Also competing this year will be Dan Law, of G & S Contractors, who won the English heat of the Grand Prix, which took place during the DOE Show in February this year. Dan turned in a winning time of 1 minute 39 seconds for the same test, with the runner up posting a time of 1 minute 45 seconds. In this shot we see another of the events from the 2009 event featuring an L170 Skid Steer loader.
This year I am also hoping to get some “stick time” on the brand new wheeled excavator products, which I will report on when I return to the UK. In the meantime here is a taste of the action from last year's Grand Prix final event in Italy.
