Job Description
Role Overview
The M&E Estimator is responsible for ensuring that the Estimating Department provides exceptional service to our clients while aligning with our company objectives. As a mechanically biased professional, you will take the lead on mechanical and electrical estimates for projects with a value ranging from £5 million to £35 million.
Key Responsibilities
Estimation Process:
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical and electrical components of construction projects.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information.
- Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documents.
- Utilise industry-standard software and tools for estimating purposes.
Cost Analysis:
- Evaluate material costs, labour, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
- Consider factors such as market rates, project complexity, and regional variations.
- Provide detailed breakdowns of estimated costs.
Bid Preparation:
- Develop comprehensive bid proposals.
- Ensure compliance with client requirements and project specifications.
- Participate in bid review meetings.
Risk Assessment:
- Identify potential risks related to cost, scope, and schedule.
- Propose mitigation strategies to minimise risks.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Estimating team, project managers, and other departments.
- Communicate effectively to ensure accurate and timely estimates.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on industry trends, pricing, and technological advancements.
- Suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications and Skills
- Mechanical or electrical engineering background preferred.
- Proven experience in estimating for construction projects.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with relevant software tools (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, Excel).
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
