M&E Estimator

Job Description

Role Overview

The M&E Estimator is responsible for ensuring that the Estimating Department provides exceptional service to our clients while aligning with our company objectives. As a mechanically biased professional, you will take the lead on mechanical and electrical estimates for projects with a value ranging from £5 million to £35 million.

Key Responsibilities

  • Estimation Process:

    • Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical and electrical components of construction projects.
    • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information.
    • Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other relevant documents.
    • Utilise industry-standard software and tools for estimating purposes.
  • Cost Analysis:

    • Evaluate material costs, labour, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
    • Consider factors such as market rates, project complexity, and regional variations.
    • Provide detailed breakdowns of estimated costs.
  • Bid Preparation:

    • Develop comprehensive bid proposals.
    • Ensure compliance with client requirements and project specifications.
    • Participate in bid review meetings.
  • Risk Assessment:

    • Identify potential risks related to cost, scope, and schedule.
    • Propose mitigation strategies to minimise risks.
  • Collaboration:

    • Work closely with the Estimating team, project managers, and other departments.
    • Communicate effectively to ensure accurate and timely estimates.
  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Stay updated on industry trends, pricing, and technological advancements.
    • Suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Qualifications and Skills

    • Mechanical or electrical engineering background preferred.
    • Proven experience in estimating for construction projects.
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
    • Familiarity with relevant software tools (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, Excel).
    • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
