SpLD Lecturer

Job Description

We at Protocol are looking for two SpLD Lecturers one one on a full-time basis and a 0.8 FTE basis to work at two college sites in the South London area on an ongoing basis. You will be required to assess and teach learners who have a wide range of specific learning difficulties to meet the Group's Strategic and Operational objectives.



Role responsibilities
Assess and support learners for 864 hours per year to provide a rich and stretching learning experience for learners and initiate improvements in learner recruitment, retention, achievement and progression. This may include whole group, small group and 1:1 teaching.


Use a range of teaching and learning strategies appropriate to the needs of the learners, and regularly review and adapt teaching materials in response to both internal and external factors such as learner feedback and new research.


Take part in the review and evaluation of learner support in line with the Group's quality systems.


Advise curriculum teams and support staff on how to support learners with specific learning difficulties in the classroom.


Continually update and improve professional knowledge, including in relation to relevant legislation and funding.


Refer learners to other College and external sources of support and guidance.


Maintain contact with parents/guardians, employers, education providers and other agencies as appropriate.


Keep accurate learning support data and high quality records to meet audit standards and deadlines.


The person & qualifications
Successful record of assessing learners with a wide range of specific learning difficulties
Successful experience of contributing to EHCPs and justifying high needs support funding to Local Authorities
Successful record of devising and implementing programmes of specific learning difficulties support for learners on a range of courses and levels
Experience of writing assessment reports for a wide audience.
Recognised specific learning difficulties qualification for teaching and assessing for exam access arrangements.
Successful and proven track record of specific learning difficulty teaching development that leads to improved success rates for learners
Qualified Teacher Status or willingness to gain a teacher qualification within 12 months of appointment
Ability to keep clear and accurate records for additional support funding purposes
Ability to identify and implement improvements in existing systems
Commitment to establishing and maintaining good working relations with colleagues and students
Commitment to the provision of a quality service and the implementation of quality improvements
