Tax Accountant - In-house

Job Description

Looking for your first move in-house?

This is my client's first dedicated tax hire you'll be an integral part of the finance function, supporting the CFO and Finance Manager. Your role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of tax filings, with a focus on VAT and Construction Industry Scheme withholding tax.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage VAT and CIS reporting and compliance processes.
  • Conduct technical reviews of VAT returns and reconciliations, addressing complex issues.
  • Review CIS returns and reconciliations monthly for accuracy and complexity.
  • Oversee VAT and CIS registrations.
  • Ensure robust and technically accurate indirect tax filings, implementing process improvements.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant indirect tax matters, providing guidance across the business.
  • Collaborate with teams to resolve tax-related issues.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for VAT and CIS tax queries.
  • Drive process documentation and improvements.
  • Work closely with the finance team to ensure tax compliance in accounting systems.
  • Support CFO with HMRC and external auditor queries.
  • Take ownership of preparing HMRC filing disclosures.
  • Assist in the SAO assurance process.
  • Provide technical tax training across the business.
  • Fulfill ad-hoc requests to support finance and business operations.

Communication:

  • Maintain high-level communication across the business.
  • Discuss and review job specifications, planning changes and improvements.
  • Demonstrate innovation by identifying opportunities for tax best practices.
  • Participate in necessary training for role duties.

Key Performance Objectives:

  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all indirect tax filings and reconciliations.
  • Deliver training and guidance accurately and on time to the business.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • CTA qualified (or equivalent ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
  • Previous experience in an Indirect Tax role, ideally with CIS experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Understanding of tax risk and controls.
  • Experience in Construction or House Building sectors is advantageous.
  • Post-qualification experience, preferably in practice.
