Our Head Office located in Newcastle upon Tyne is looking to recruit a Group Technical Manager to join the Group Commercial team. The Role The role of Group Technical Manager reports to the Group Commercial Director. Principal accountabilities of the Group Technical Manager role include: Provide building safety information and support at Group and Divisional level, in order to continually improve business performance and ensure projects are deliverable and that the desired outputs are attained. Provide hands on project management support and advice to divisions. Work closely with external project management companies that have been appointed to work on current projects. Liaise with external stakeholders to ensure we take advantage of technical innovation and comply with all relevant fire safety standards and Regulations. Undertake a range of technical, regulatory and quality control duties by visiting sites and divisional offices. Provide reports and briefs to Project Management team on a monthly basis. Manage and maintain Fire Safety portal. Produce all necessary management reports and information to agreed timescales. Help develop and maintain a comprehensive building portfolio and dataset. Help develop and maintain a comprehensive set of group technical policies and procedures. Communicate these policies and procedures and where necessary provide training and briefing to Divisional staff. Audit Divisional compliance with Group policy and procedures. Scan the market and provide early warning of potential changes to fire industry standards and Regulation. Research and define the most cost-effective ways of achieving compliance with industry standards and Regulations. Help develop quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with key Building Regulations, quality and safety issues. With particular emphasis to Approved Document B – Fire Safety. Act as an advisor on building safety issues to our Divisions. Site audits and training to reinforce Group policy and procedures. Experience, Qualifications and Skills Experience Extensive relevant experience with either a house builder, consultant or associated field in regards to fire safety. Experience of visiting construction sites and carrying out operational or audit / compliance visits. Knowledge of the technical aspect of home building processes would be useful but not mandatory. Relevant experience in a senior technical relevant role. Qualifications and Training Degree level educated in project management, architecture, engineering or surveying. Alternatively, an HND/HNC in Project Management, Building Studies/Construction or other relevant project management, technical or construction qualification, will be considered. Chartered Professional membership to a professional body such as APM, IFE, CIAT, CIOB, MICE or RICS, is desirable. Full, current driving licence Skills and Aptitude Sound organisation and project management skills. Strong listening and communication skills. Expert knowledge of the Building Regulations. Strong networking and negotiation skills and able to influence Regulators, technical and construction staff. Self-motivating, enthusiastic, flexible and driven to meet deadlines. Smart and presentable. Ability to deliver training of a technical nature. Strong IT skills with experience of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Powerpoint etc. Advanced skills in the use of Excel would be an advantage. Committed to research, learning and self-development. A good problem solver capable of solving technical issues efficiently and effectively. Commercial awareness and a good knowledge of the home building process.
