The 1,124m-long bridge crosses a deep ravine in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountains in northern Mexico and has a clearance of 390m below the deck. Its main span is 520m.
President Felipe Calderon made the final concrete pour and spoke at the inauguration ceremony, acknowledging the achievement of the construction teams in building structure. He described the bridge as a symbol of what Mexicans can achieve.
The project cost MXN2bn (£93m). A consortium formed by Tradeco, Idinsa and Corey and VSL México carried out the construction.
The Guinness World of Records has acknowledged the bridge’s record, which was previously held by France's Millau Viaduct with a clearance of 270m.
