The £4.5bn regeneration of a deprived area of north-west London is set to go ahead after clearing its final planning hurdle.

Communities and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles said he would not call in the Brent Cross Cricklewood development for a public inquiry.

Campaigners opposing the scheme had presented a 5,000-signature petition to his predecessor, Labour minister John Denham.

The regeneration scheme will involve the construction of 7,500 homes, three schools, a train station, a bus station, six bridges and public spaces.

Construction work is due to start in 2014. Further information is available on the official Brent Cross Cricklewood website.
