Tesco is planning the construction of a 500,000 sq ft distribution hub at Rainham in Essex, after buying the site from the London Development Agency.

The new facility will feature two main buildings on the 15ha Beam Reach 5 site, alongside the A13.

Construction work on the project will start as soon as Spen Hill, the development arm of Tesco, obtains planning permission from the London Borough of Havering.

LDA head of development Steven Kidd said: “The LDA’s vision for Beam Reach is to give companies the benefit of a revitalised gateway to East London. This transaction with Tesco will create jobs and add to our plans for modern manufacturing, commerce, housing, education and employment.”

Tesco has also agreed options with the LDA to purchase additional land at the 35ha Beam Reach 5 site for further expansion.
