BRE and HSL collaborate to export safety lessons

13 Nov 13 The Building Research Establishment is teaming up with the Health & Safety Laboratory (HSL) to export UK construction safety expertise.

The collaboration is designed to combine BRE products such as training, certification, BREEAM and its global network of Innovation Parks with HSL’s knowledge, science and experience of managing occupational health hazards in the construction industry.

BRE Global certification director Andy Butterfield explained: “Our collective aim is to help overseas markets to adopt the exemplar model developed in the UK through HSE regulation and interaction with industry leaders on construction projects like the London 2012 Olympic Park, which resulted in the project being the safest of its kind on record.’

HSL international commercial director Bill Nixon added: “As the scientific arm of the UK Health & Safety Executive, we bring our organisation’s experience of working to improve health and safety in the UK’s construction sector to the partnership. We will use BREs global network of Innovation Parks in China, Brazil and the US to develop visible demonstration models of construction health and safety best practice. This is an exciting opportunity and we look forward to working with our new partners.”
