Carillion and Morgan Sindall top responsibility ranking

21 Apr 15 Carillion and Morgan Sindall are the construction industry’s most responsible businesses, according to a voluntary benchmarking scheme based on self-assessment.

The 2015 Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index produced by Business in the Community gave four stars, representing a score of 96%, to both Carillion and Morgan Sindall.

Business in the Community describes its CR Index as “the UK’s leading voluntary benchmark for responsible business” and “a robust tool to help companies systematically measure, manage and integrate responsible business practice”.

It takes the form of an online survey. Companies that choose to participate follow a self-assessment process intended to help them identify both the strengths in their management and performance and gaps, where future progress can be made.

Morgan Sindall director of safety and sustainability Martin Worthington said: “The CR Index challenges us on everything that we do and how effectively we do it. It covers many elements including how our business is governed, our strategy, our management practices, our community engagement and our environmental impact, as well as how effectively these are integrated. I am delighted to see that we have achieved a significant increase in our 2015 rating and this is testament to the considerable hard work undertaken by colleagues right across the company. It is an achievement of which are all very proud.”
