Laing O’Rourke targets housing market with new recruit

29 Nov 13 Laing O’Rourke has recruited Steve Trusler from Wates to grow its presence in the UK housing market.

He joins in January from Wates Living Space, where he was strategy director. His new job title is accommodation sector leader for Europe and he will report to Laing O’Rourke’s Europe CEO Roger Robinson.

In his new job Mr Trusler will be responsible for developing and building Laing O’Rourke’s sector strategy in the private residential homes, affordable housing and social housing markets.

Mr Trusler is a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing, a member of the BiTC Enterprise leadership team and chairman of housing association Aster Homes.

Laing O’Rourke group chief executive Anna Stewart said: “Steve has worked in the affordable housing sector for 30 years, and joins us from Wates where he was national strategy director for housing. He was instrumental in creating Wates Living Space, leading its business strategy and successful business growth. He is a passionate supporter for continuous improvement and innovation, and is recognised as a strong industry influencer having participated in governmental debates on key issues and policies affecting the national housing market.

“Steve is a strong addition to our sector leadership and brings a commercially creative approach to new initiatives and problem solving. He is a well-respected figure in the industry with a wide ranging network of contacts throughout the housing sector in the UK. His appointment will accelerate our exciting plans to grow Laing O’Rourke’s presence in the UK housing market based on our unique business offering.”
