The INR480m (£6.7m) new reclaimed rubber manufacturing facility will be built on a greenfield site spread over 12 acres at Perundurai near Erode in the state of Tamilnadu.
It will include administration, storage and security facilities as well as a manufacturing block producing butyl reclaimed rubber. A key task for Mott MacDonald will be to provide material handling solutions for specific sections to help to increase the productivity of the plant.
“We are delighted to be appointed on this important project as there is a good potential for this industry in India,” said Mott MacDonald project director Manan Thakore. “Used rubber tyres and tubes can be recycled resulting in less waste and less environmental degradation. Mott MacDonald has a wealth of experience in delivering industrial projects over four decades and we will use the expertise gained from previous projects to deliver this reclaimed rubber manufacturing facility.”
The first phase of the project is due for completion early 2012.
