Wates said that the appointment was made to strengthen its senior team in the region as it prepares to grow in the commercial, industrial and education sectors.

Richard Scarrott joined Wates in as operations director Birmingham in July 2013. As business unit director, he will take overall charge of Wates’ portfolio for the region. Current projects include the development of MTC’s Ansty Park in Coventry, the £20m expansion of Intu Potteries in Stoke-on-Trent and the contractor’s place on Scape’s East Midlands Property Alliance frameworks.

Mr Scarrott said: “It has been an exceptional year for Wates in the Midlands, which has seen us strengthen our position in our core markets whilst growing into the emerging commercial and industrial sectors as the economic recovery gathers pace. During the past 18 months I have observed the pride with which Wates delivers exceptional projects for its clients and I look forward to taking this further and supporting our growth in the coming years.”

Phil Harrison, managing director for Wates Construction Midlands & North, added: “Having now got under the skin of the business as operations director, Richard has an excellent vantage point from which he can lead our team to build on our successes and develop and secure our long-term growth. Continually improving upon our client offering is at the centre of our growth strategy, however underpinning this we will also build upon our investment in training and Richard will be fundamental in taking this forward and developing our team.”
