WSP sets carbon neutral goal

29 Jun 17 Consulting engineer WSP’s UK operation has set a target of becoming carbon neutral by 2025.

In the UK at least, WSP aims to cut waste, business travel and energy usage as it looks to practice what it preaches.

Plans contained in the company’s 2016 Annual Sustainability Report include: reducing business travel and commuting carbon emissions by 17% per employee by 2020; reducing energy use per square metre by 16% by 2020; and sending zero waste to landfill by 2020.

In 2016, WSP saw its total carbon emissions drop by 9%, office energy use and paper use fall by 10% and a recycling rate of 93% achieved.

WSP UK chief operating officer Mike Rogerson said: “We are practising what we preach. Clients and colleagues alike say that they want to be ready for the future. That they want to be part of creating a prosperous, sustainable, resilient economy. There’s no better way to demonstrate how this is possible than by going carbon neutral ourselves by 2025.”
