APPLY Job Description

Intermediate Mechanical Engineer
Location: Leicester
Working pattern: Hybrid - 4 days office-based, 1 day working from home, with a 9-day fortnight

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join a growing, independent building services consultancy based in Leicester.

With three established offices, the business has ambitious growth plans and is looking to strengthen its team with an additional Mechanical Engineer.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with around 3-5 years' experience who is looking to take the next step in their career, gain greater project responsibility and develop within a business that genuinely invests in its people.

Unlike larger corporate consultancies, this business offers a more personal working environment, direct access to senior leadership and a clear pathway for career progression, with opportunities to progress towards Senior, Associate and ultimately Director level.

The Role
Working alongside an established team of engineers, you will be involved in delivering a varied portfolio of building services projects across multiple sectors.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and delivering mechanical building services solutions across a range of projects.
  • Producing mechanical design calculations, specifications and technical reports.
  • Working on heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), domestic water services and associated mechanical systems.
  • Supporting projects from initial concept and design through to detailed design and delivery.
  • Assisting with the design and specification of plant rooms, heating and cooling systems and ventilation installations.
  • Coordinating with electrical engineers, architects, contractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Attending design meetings and contributing to project discussions.
  • Taking increasing ownership of your own projects and responsibilities.
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations and best practice.

The project portfolio includes education, residential, Ministry of Justice, prison and refurbishment schemes, providing exposure to a diverse range of technically interesting projects.

What We're Looking For

  • A background in mechanical building services design.
  • Experience producing mechanical designs and calculations.
  • Good knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and domestic water services.
  • Good knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Competent with relevant design software.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to take on additional responsibility.
  • Someone ambitious who is keen to develop their technical skills and progress their career.

Candidates with more experience will also be considered.

What's on Offer?

This is where the opportunity really stands out.

  • Clear career progression: A genuine opportunity to progress towards Senior, Associate and Director-level positions.
  • Potential share ownership: Opportunities to become more involved in the business as you develop.
  • 9-day fortnight: Enjoy every other Friday off, giving you a three-day weekend every two weeks.
  • Hybrid working: Typically four days in the office and one day working from home.
  • Private healthcare: Private medical insurance, with the option to include family members.
  • Enhanced pension: Employer pension matching of up to 10%, subject to the company's contribution structure.
  • Annual bonus: Discretionary annual bonus.
  • Supportive environment: Work closely with experienced engineers and senior leadership in a collaborative, growing consultancy.
  • Varied projects: Exposure to a diverse range of sectors and technically challenging schemes.

Why Join?
If you're a Mechanical Engineer who feels you've reached a ceiling in your current position, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

You'll be joining a growing consultancy where your contribution is recognised, your development is encouraged and progression is genuinely achievable.

Rather than being another number in a large organisation, you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference, take ownership of projects and help shape the future of the business.
